Outdoor Summer Drama Camps: Assistant Tutor Opportunity

What Happens Now? Is a Glasgow based youth theatre with a difference - we work in the great outdoors! 

We are on the hunt for an enthusiastic assistant youth theatre tutor to join us for our outdoor summer camp activities in July.

Our summer camps will run on 17th and 18th July, and then from 24th- 28th July, and will include a variety of fun sessions for ages 3 - 8. Sessions will run between 9am and 4pm.

What the role will involve:

  • Attending a planning meeting with the What Happens Now? team prior to the summer camps kicking off.

  • Assisting the lead artist in delivering our range of workshops/summer camps which includes a range of short morning/afternoon workshops, full-day workshops and a three-day summer camp.

  • Acting as assistant director for a short performance which will be put together as part of our three-day summer camp.

  • Supporting the children to have lots of fun!

  • Supporting an intern, alongside the lead artist, to work with the children and to lead games where appropriate.

Who we’re looking for:

Essential: 

  • We’re looking for an assistant with some experience of working with youth theatre or youth drama previously, ideally with the 3 – 8s age group.

  • Someone with bags of energy and enthusiasm, who doesn’t mind getting a bit muddy (or a wee bit wet if it rains!).

  • Someone who is confident in working with children and passionate about the benefits of getting involved in drama and other creative activities.

  • An assistant who can lead some drama games and warm up activities.

  • The assistant should be a member of the PVG scheme, or be willing to join and should have a good understanding of child protection policy.

  • Finally, the assistant should be reliable and punctual.

Desirable:

  • Experience in working with children with additional support needs

  • Previous experience in outdoor arts delivery

  • First Aid Training

 

Our summer camps will be delivered at Dumbreck Yard, within Pollok Park. The space is accessible by car, or by a mix of public transport and a walk. Ideally, the assistant should be based in Glasgow or the surrounding areas.

The fee for the assistant shall be £600 all inclusive. Please note this is a freelance role.

Outdoor Summer Drama Camps: Paid Internship Opportunity

We are on the hunt for an intern to join us for our outdoor summer camp activities in July, and to support us in delivering fun and exciting activities for our participants while gaining skills in youth theatre facilitation, and outdoor arts.

Our summer camps will run on 17th and 18th July,  and then from 24th- 28th July, and will include a variety of fun sessions for ages 3 - 8. Sessions will run between 9am and 4pm, with wraparound care offered 8 - 9am, and 4 - 6pm (The intern shall be required 8am - 6pm and will be provided with 1.5hrs break each day)

What the role will involve:

  • Attending a planning meeting with the What Happens Now? Team prior to the summer camps kicking off.

  • Assisting the lead artist and assistant tutor in delivering our range of workshops/summer camps which includes a range of short morning/afternoon workshops, full day workshops and a three day summer camp.

  • Supporting the children to have lots of fun!

  • Supporting children attending wraparound care sessions before and after our main activities - overseen by the lead artist.

Essential: 

  • We’re looking for someone with a keen interest in youth theatre and working with children, particularly in the 3 - 8 age range. You don’t need to have prior experience in working with children - you may for example be studying drama at university or college, or at higher level in school, or you may be already working in the arts and have an interest in developing facilitation and youth theatre leadership skills.

  • Someone with bags of energy and enthusiasm, who doesn’t mind getting a bit muddy (or a wee bit wet if it rains!).

  • Someone who is passionate about the benefits of  drama and other creative activities.

  • Someone with the confidence to get involved in drama games and to support our participants to build their own confidence and gain drama skills.

  • The intern should be willing to join the PVG scheme, membership will be paid for by What Happens Now?.

  • The intern should be reliable and punctual; able to conduct themselves professionally around children and be friendly and approachable.

  • Finally, due to the length of our days, the intern must be over 18.

Desirable:

  • Experience in working with children aged 3 - 8

  • Experience in working with children with additional support needs

  • Existing PVG membership

  • First Aid Trained
